Annual 10K, Fun Run & Walk

ABCD has always recognised the importance of regular exercise as a key contributor to the prevention of cardiovascular disease.  Early on we decided to help in a practical way by organising both a 10K race from the hospital around the Gallanach shore, (surely one of the most picturesque 10K’s in the country?), and a separate sponsored walk to help raise money for our charity.

Over the years this has evolved with the addition of popular children’s races over a shorter distance and the merging of the walk and the 10K race. All taking part receive an ABCD T-shirt, a medal and a goody bag!

We hold this event every year on a Sunday in May or June starting from the grassy area behind the hospital.

Since we started this in 2003, we have financially supported new developments in Argyll which aim to promote healthy exercise on a regular basis (possibly as a result of our initiative?).  This has included giving start up funding for several Park Runs and children’s play parks.

This year the event was held on Sunday 8th June 2025 at 1pm start for all runners and a 12 noon start for walkers. A total of over 80 runners and walkers took part on a lovely dry, but not too warm day.  After each event three members of the four Argyll Cycle Charity group presented the prizes. They were then awarded the Jimmy Don trophy in recognition of the huge contribution they have made to ABCD funds.

Winners of the 10K this year were Rory Dowd and Laura Barrington.  Andrew Barrington and Ewan Dowd were second and third respectively in the men's event, and Catriona MacGillivary and Eilidh Orr in the women's race.  Vetyran's class (over 50) were won by Keith Davidson and Jacquie MacLean.

In the children's fun run Theo Daniels and Hallie Dunn were first in the boys and girls group aged 8-14 yrs, and in the 3-7 yrs group, Ewan MacGillivary and Charlotte MacGillivary were first boy and girl.
